Have a total brain**** doing the final assessment module, just cant receive the connection back to me.

obviously hard to say coz many things can go wrong. before dealing with the remote server, build your exploit that launches calc or explorer if succeeding and launch it on the VM from the previous sections. you’ll need to move the assessment files there first in order to launch the exe. if it doesn’t work you can debug on that machine.
