Foothold: This basket is powered by “you can google it”. Look up for any flaws this software had in the past and test it from your side.
User: After you find the flaw, see what other places you can reach. Repeat the googling and get initial access.
Root: Your tipical PE, pretty straight forward.

Can somebody give me a hint on the root flag, I am not able to find anything that I can use to get root, but a lot of people in this threead call it trivial
It should be one of the first things you try when you have a stable shell on a box.
