check if your ssh service is active "service ssh start " if there are problem whit your local ssh it aint work
whit no experience doing an hard box isnt a wise chooise … start from low level , even easy HTB box are to difficult for a total newcomer in my opinion…
frist start whit : OverTheWire: Wargames do the chapter in the suggested order , for example the chapter 1 bandit tech you a wide range of bash command in a ctf fashion, maybe at the begin can be boring to use only cat and go around dirs to find the flag but more u go on more they add new command and concatenate them … in other way start to learn how to use bash know his commands and how to move inside directory and which are the directory u should prioritazie … then u can start jumping into HTB STARTING PONINT and maybe do some reads of the FREE accademy lessons …
jumping in a box whitout any expirence not only u dont learn anything but become boring to fast , you can go whit writeups …but what u resolved ? nothing ? since u dont know what are u doing and why so at the end u lerned nothing …
take your time and start whit basic and remeber dont waste yout rime re-write or do a detalied summary of any exercises , boxes or reading …

im from italy my vpn connection works fine … usually start lagging bit only the last ssh session i open but only if i forgot to close all the revshell , local servers and all the other ssh session i left running behind me …
i’m in the box with another guy, which blocked the user method to escalate and nobody wants reset. It’s a pretty headache.
Just finished rooting the box with 4 people at it at the same time as me.
Are you sure it’s blocked, as when looking at the escalation paths I needed for all the steps then multiple people on the same box shouldn’t block anything as long as they don’t do something really dumb or malicious.

Just for the sake of science, has anyone managed to use the root SSH key to log in? I get the error Load key "id_rsa": error in libcrypto , and the problem may lie either in the library itself or I just messed up with the key when I tried to restore it from error messages.
