Hey! i dont think VIP machines will really help a lot. I think its more important for you to learn more about the basics like Linux, networking, a bit of scripting in python, bash and php and then start working on free boxes on vulnhub and hack the box
Dont worry about not getting the flags or the shell but try to understand the different technologies involved and how people exploit them.
I have been in your position as well and its just a matter of not giving up and to keep learning
