I am on the last step… I type the following command- $smbclient \\10.129.1.12//WorkShares
my result - tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
I have no idea what this means and yes I watched a tutorial and restarted the machine and the pwnbox instance. I am sorry if I am missing something I am new to the field. Please help 
I had the same issue. I was using $smbclient \10.129.1.12//WorkShares$ instead of $smbclient \10.129.1.12//WorkShares . the $ is perhaps used to indicate a drive and that was causing the problem for me.
