Hi everyone,
If you’re just scrolling the HTB forums, please ignore this post. I’m mainly making it to have resource to redirect people to when I’m offering them help.
I’ve noticed that a lot of people don’t include enough information when asking questions and it can sometimes be quite annoying. In order to speed up the process for everyone involved and decrease ambiguity in questions, I’ve made this small guide.
Every question should contain at least the following:
Box name
Part of box:
Root / User
What kind of shell you have:
Meterpreter as OriginalName / Webshell as BingBong
What you already have tried:
I’ve done this kind of enum, which gave me nothing. Then I did *** and found ***
What you suspect the way to go is:
I think I need to do *** but I couldn’t get it to work.
If something isn’t working:
What commands you’re doing:
First I start the *** using this command, then I create my payload with this command. Then I go remote and test out this command but it doesn’t work.
Notes:
- On Discord: put commands between ` (backtick). This makes it easier to view and removes some things Discord may do with your command (Such as displaying \ as )
- Type your request in one message. Nobody likes getting 10 messages that could have easily been 1.
- You’re not entitled to get help. If a person doesn’t respond within a minute, please note that they might be busy.
If I missed something, feel free to comment it and I’ll add it.
Hopefully this could become a good resource for people to link to.
