Starting point nmap

Hey guys,
So I have checked and I am def connected to the vpn, but am having issues with nmap.

when I copy the whole ports=$… I get error #487: Your port spec are illegal.

when I try just scanning with nmap I get all ports are closed.

anyone know what is going wrong?

I frequently have issues with the ports=$ script and rarely find it adds any value to a scan.

Try scanning with --reason to see why it says the ports are closed.

I got:
All 1000 scanned ports are closed because of 1000 conn-refused

ETA: oh maybe I didn’t disable the firewall properly

ETA 2: nope still not working after disabling ufw

Can you ping the server? Does tracert work?

ping worked fine, traceroute not working

What does traceroute come back with?

Is it a server you need to activate? (I haven’t looked at the starting point boxes very much)
